We’re not starting a cult but some followers on Instagram would be nice. Thank you.
I don’t know about you, but this is what my Instagram Story timeline looks like in the past 24 hours.
Who is this guy nestled in countless stacks of cash and why are so many people resharing his Instagram post?
This is 25-year-old Jimmy Donaldson, also known as MrBeast.

The American content creator has over 150 million subscribers, making him one of the most subscribed YouTubers in the world.
He is known for elaborate and insane (or inane, depending on how you see it) YouTube videos.
Like, say, recreating the set of Netflix’s Squid Game for US$456,000 (S$604,850).
Or offering US$500,000 to the last person to leave a circle.
Some may even consider him a philanthropist since he has given a lot of money to random people on his YouTube and TikTok channels.
In fact, one of his most-watched YouTube videos is where he helped to treat 1,000 people with blindness and low vision.
Very, very rich
Another question that probably crossed your mind is: “Just how much money does he have?”
According to Forbes, MrBeast made US$54 million (S$71,607,780) in 2021 and was expected to make as much as US$110 million (S$145,867,700) in 2022.
In essence, he’s a famous online personality with a lot of followers and a lot more money.
Why is he on my Instagram feed?
That still doesn’t answer the question of why he’s been appearing on my feed more often these days, though.
On May 8, MrBeast posted a photo on Instagram.

To celebrate his birthday, which falls on May 7, he intends on giving away US$10,000 (S$13,262) to five followers each.
Of course, like any other social media giveaway, there is a catch.
Here are his conditions:
- Follow @mrbeast on Instagram
- Share the Instagram post on your Instagram Story
- Tag someone in the comment section
The giveaway is also open worldwide, but excludes the state of New York, for some reason.
Unfortunately, MrBeast claimed that Instagram “took down” his Instagram post but he’s working on getting it back up.
Given the big cash prize and his even bigger following, it’s no surprise that the post has received over 17 million likes and 21 million comments.
MrBeast said he will pick the winners “in 72 hours”, with proof.
The odds of winning are nanoscopic, but hey, it’s easier to reshare a post than to buy 4D, even.
