Marie Kondo no longer tidies up house as much after 3rd kid, & quite reasonably so

Marie Kondo is no longer the Marie Kondo we know.

The cleaning guru is well, still a best-selling author, but admits that tidying up is no longer a priority after her third kid in 2021, the Washington Post reported.

“My home is messy, but the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this time at this stage of my life,” the news publication quoted her as saying.

She added:

“Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times,” she said at the event. “I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realise what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home.”

In fact, after her second child was born, Marie had already realised that a perfectly tidy house might be too much to ask for.

“I think I became more forgiving after my baby was born, especially because I’m so much more limited in time and [given] the sheer number of things that increase,” she said then.

Marie and her husband, Takumi Kawahara, also run lifestyle brand KonMari.

The couple is currently based in Los Angeles, with three children turning six, five, and two this year.

These days, her idea of “sparking joy” (there’s the term again) consists of doing little things that make her happy, such as drinking tea three times a day.

Amazingly, she also finds time for scrapbooking, Washington Post reveals.

The scrapbook is organised by colour, with photos that she cuts out of books and magazines. Looking at the scrapbook apparently helps her to relax.

At the end of the day, Marie Kondo is still a different breed from us, it seems.
