Oh dear.

We’re not starting a cult but some followers on Instagram would be nice. Thank you.

Influencer Koh Boon Ki is getting dragged on Twitter after user @woraidatpic re-uploaded a video of her ranting about people who didn’t major in science.

The video, which was originally posted on Boon Ki’s TikTok account, has been taken down from her page, but the internet sees, and the internet remembers.

The two-minute long video shows Boon Ki applying her makeup while addressing her viewers.

Boon Ki opens with the question: “People who studied science in secondary school, JC (junior college), uni[versity], and then they graduated and met non-science students, how are your conversations going?”

She then proceeds to suggest that non-science majors are ignorant about their bodies, questioning: “How can you like, live your life not knowing how your body works?”

Boon Ki then related a story where a friend of hers apparently had no idea what constipation was.

This, she claims, is a “common experience” when “talking to non-science students”.

She went on to question why Chemistry was a compulsory science subject in school, but not Biology, and said that she used a lot more Biology knowledge in real life than Chemistry.

As she studied healthcare, she also seemed to pride herself on knowing about “blood pressure” and “sugar level(s)”, but questioned if people with these diseases “know what’s going on with their body”.

People are offended

To no one’s surprise, Twitter users were offended.

On an unrelated noted, there were also several other tweets making fun of the way she spoke.

And even though the video is no longer up on Boon Ki’s TikTok account, a commenter who identified herself as a nurse took to another unrelated video to share her viewpoint, and emphasise the importance of empathy when talking to others who may not understand certain terms:

However, there were those who agreed with her perspective, though not necessarily her delivery.

“Thanks for humbling me”

Boon Ki then uploaded another video addressing the previous video, acknowledging that she had come across as “stuck up”.

Boon Ki did not apologise, but said that she had taken the video down because she “realised that [she didn’t] sound very nice”.

She said:

“I feel like it’s been a very humbling experience. Every time that I post something that is like, so normal to me on TikTok, people will be like, you are stuck in your bubble. You’re so stuck up, how can you be so condescending?”

“Thanks for humbling me, honestly I deserved it,” she added.

Previously caught up in controversy

This is not the first time that Boon Ki has gotten into trouble for her behaviour online.

In October 2021, Boon Ki had to apologise after she created a group chat for girls to share their dating experiences and save others the trouble of “finding out the red flags” on their own.

The chat had come about after she suggested it in a TikTok, and the idea received both positive and negative reactions.

Its members eventually created a Google sheet named “Dating Guide SG”, which had two separate tabs labelled “Blacklist” and “Avoid”.

Each tab contained information such as names, why the individuals had been listed and links to their social media profiles.

This caused an uproar, as people shared concerns of biased or false accusations. There was also no way to verify if any of the allegations were true.

Others also pointed out that had the roles been reversed and men discussed their experiences with women, it would be seen as unacceptable.

Boon Ki, however, has maintained that she did not create the sheet, and had no access to it.
